Great site

I have streamed and downloaded a number of films and TV shows. I have a 30-36mb average connection. I almost never see the buffering circle of doom and if I do its once in a movie for a few seconds. The site is good and easy to use. I have told friends to use it and they have had no complaints. Its a great site for the casual viewer. I do wish there was a subscription option. If you want to watch movies before any other site this is the place to go.

In summary, I would recommend BlinkBox to a friend.

Flawed

Good content and if you don't want/need to pay Skys ridiculously heavy fees their pay as you watch model is on paper good value for money. tried it fot season 3 game of thrones which isn't anywhere else legally in uk. My internet connection is a bit variable being a small village two miles from exchange and depends a lot on who else is online/time of day etc. Streaming however seemed distinctly dodgy at any time with way too much buffering and was generally unwatchable. Picture quality also very soft and mushy. downloading seemed incredibly slow - well over two hours an episode and I don't think that's all down to my connection. However as long as you do it in advance and get on with something else you get there in end. Once downloaded all the DRM works fine and I like the fact you can repeat download something you have bought whenever you want -saves clogging up gigabytes of disc. Picture quality is ok though I'm not sure I really think 720P qualifies as meriting an HD premium price these days which annoys me, and sound is a stereo downmix (why cant people keep a 5.1... Better than expected

I wanted to watch Game of Thrones season 3 and Blinkbox is the only legal way to watch this in the UK at present, so I decided to take the risk despite the poor reviews here. I was very pleasantly surprised with the result.

I live in West Yorkshire, have reliable internet speeds of 35Mb (plus.net), and was downloading to a Windows PC with Windows Media Centre connected to my HD TV.

I subscribed easily on the site, and received an introductory credit of £5. I had read some reviews that the blinkbox SD was poor quality so I decided to buy the HD version of Game of Thrones. The HD versions were in 720p. I download the first episode at about 8pm on a Wednesday night, the download took about 5 minutes for a 1hr episode ~ 2Gb (on par with iTunes).

The quality of the download was very good it played smoothly and without problem. However before I could view the video from the Windows Media Centre interface I had to start each file once from the desktop to authorise the DRM. This was one click if you use the download manager from... (Read the full review)

Complete waste of time

Don't even bother. Like all of the other reviewers here I found that the site downloading and streaming speeds were so slow that it was like using a dial-up line. Nothing wrong with my connection or broadband speed - it's the Blinkbox service. Film file quality was awful too.

In summary, I would not recommend BlinkBox to a friend.

Buffering - buferring - buferring - go to neflix!

Having paid for a few months with netflix I had a bench mark standard. i.e plenty of content and minimal buffering.

Tescos give you £5 credit + pay £1 and you buy what you want to watch. All seems good.

Bought and tried to watch 'The Walking Dead' series 1 episode 1 £1.99.

Pathetic - unwatchable - watch 2 seconds wait 5 seconds (minimum) buffering symbol.

Tried to download to my PC ----------- equally pathetically slow.

Perhaps the biggest criticism is that while 'downloading' the walking dead, series 1 (episode1 only - not the whole series) I watched "in the line of fire" (Clint Eastwood film) with no significant buffering.

try to watch on blinkbox errrr buffering symbol is all you get.

Pathetic ...... I expected Tesco's to have seen the competition had set the bar and would jump over it. Didn't occur to me Tesco's would try to tunnel under - Pathetic. Don't bother. And don't bother 'pausing' makes no difference - buffering symbol is the main feature.

The good side was that DVD purchases I had made appeared for my 'club card' number . However when I went to watch them errr........buffering symbol, buffering symbol, errr buffering symbol

Don't waste your time until they get a grip

In summary, I would not recommend BlinkBox to a friend.

Very poor delivery options

No app for many smart TVs (none for Panasonic Viera).

So tried to watch through PS3.

Shockingly, their advice is to use the PS3 web browser to watch content.

You can imagine the quality issues and difficulty this poses. No HD, for a start; very difficult navigation, annoying cursor on screen, difficult to switch to full-screen, etc.

Senseless they don't have an app for Viera or PS3 and little HD content.

The bill themselves as being "to the rescue" as Actetrax is closing; at least Acetrax had good apps on both Smart TV and PS3 and an easy-to-use interface.

All I can say is, RIP Acetrax.

Only plus side, they give you £6 free credit to find out how poor it is.

In summary, I would not recommend BlinkBox to a friend.

Dreadful. Avoid
17 May 2013
Reviewer: J. from London, UK

How is it even possible that any director or senior manager from a well established household name such as Tesco could not check user reviews of Blink Box and fail to get the problems sorted out? There is barely a positive word about Blink Box from any review on this site. The overwhelming majority are all negative.

To summarize my review, I would say 'avoid Blink Box like the plague!'. Use any other online streaming service, just not Blink Box. In a nutshell, for one reason or another it simply does not work. I have attempted to open two accounts online. When entering card details for payment the response was 'cannot process payment at this time'. And this happened when entering details of three different cards. What is worst is that once the account is set up there is no function or option within the account management section of their web site to enter payment details, thereby rendering it absolutely unusable. Opened an enquiry with customer support (another complicated and frustrating process) and whilst I have received replies I have not received a single explanation of what the problem is nor what they can do to resolve the issues. So, useless.

I... (Read the full review)
