Gamers amongst you will know of Xbox, Microsoft’s gaming console that is a rival to Sony’s PlayStation. Well, like Sony, Microsoft are offering their customers the opportunity to rent and purchase the latest movies and TV shows online, through Xbox Video UK. There are literally hundreds of thousands of videos to choose from, making this a veritable feast for any film fan and TV anorak. 

If you’re familiar with the layout of Xbox’s interfaces then this will be a doddle to use. Films can be rented (watched once) or purchased (so you can watch it as many times as you like). Prices are actually a little lower than is standard and there are also a few sales now and again that can save you up to 50%. That said, we felt that there were fewer sales on Xbox Video UK than its Sony counterpart. However, on new movies it may turn out cheaper over all. 

We’ve already mentioned the interfaces briefly but there are a couple more features that set Xbox apart from its rivals. We really liked the use of Kinect to control volume, movie selections and more. This might look silly (you need to wave your hands around) but with voice activation tied in this seemed like the future of watching movies in the home.

You can also watch on several devices, all of which are synchronised (so long as you are logged in) and so if you stop watching a movie part way through on your Xbox you can continue from where you left it on your TV or tablet. Pretty cool!

We were impressed by the audio and visual quality of the trailers, movies and TV shows available on this site. You can choose from standard definition or high definition, although the latter costs a little extra. It’s also a flexible system as you can purchase your favourites, rent those you’re unsure of and sign up to the season pass as a way of experiencing movies you might otherwise have ignored.

Of course, you can also purchase games through Xbox Live. That’s something else altogether but it’s worth remembering that they’re available as you never know what kinds of offers you might get in the future.

Users can opt in to a season pass package which allows them access to a number of shows and films, plus discounts on any further purchases. If you’re a regular viewer then this could offer up some great money saving options.

The people who will get the most out of Xbox Video are those who use its wide variety of services. If you’re a gamer who likes watching plenty of TV shows and movies then you can get some good deals through this website, as well as living in a sci-fi world of waving your hands around to control which movies you’re watching through Kinect. Even so, the slightly lower price tags and large array of available movies makes Xbox Video UK a strong contender for anyone who wants to watch a film, irrelevant of their gadgets.
