Sony Entertainment Network Movies Reviews

Sony are perhaps now better known for their games consoles (namely the PlayStation) but they also manufacture a range of entertainment devices. You can now access a selection of movies, TV shows and games online through their Entertainment website. Whilst most of their new releases cost around the industry average, Sony Entertainment Network Movies offers a series of great discounts that set it above some of its competitors.

Generally speaking you’ll pay the same amount for a new release on this site as you will many others, however if you’re also interested in renting older movies for as little as £0.99 then this site is certainly worth a visit. There are plenty to choose from and the quality of the videos is very high.

You can find films simply by browsing genre, performing a basic search or by exploring the “discover” section. “Discover” attempts to make you aware of movies that you might otherwise not watch by grouping them into unique categories. For example you can view a range of comic-book spin off movies, or find films that gamers will like.

You can also take a look at the movies highly rated by current members. Members are able to leave a star rating for a movie and you’ll soon discover that a lot of the films on Sony Entertainment Network have received a very healthy number of votes.

Our one gripe here, though, is that you can’t see who has rated the movie and you can’t check any individual scores (rather you can only see the total rating and how many people reviewed it). We’d also like to see members’ comments on each movie, but this – all things considered – isn’t a massive deal.

The audio and visual quality of the movies is excellent and you can watch them through your console or home computer. Rentals are available in standard definition and high definition, although HD does cost more. We thought it was interesting that you can find films based on the studio that produced them, something we don’t often see elsewhere. It’s not a major thing but it’s just another way to help you find movies you might like.

It’s hard to talk about Sony without mentioning the Games and TV sections, each worth while in their own right. Again, they’re not the cheapest places to find new content but it is a simple way to access games and television shows if you don’t fancy waiting. Movies can also be played on all PlayStation consoles (PS4, PS3, Vita and PSP) as well as Xperia tablets and smart phones, Bravia TV and Media Go, making it quite versatile (assuming you have those devices). If you find a movie you like the look of then you can watch a high quality trailer and read a little about the storyline, actors and more.

Sony Entertainment offers members a lot of choice. If you have a PlayStation it’s particularly easy to purchase content and get playing or watching. With a number of excellent and on-going sales (including a few free movies) Sony Entertainment provides better value than many of its competitors without having to hold back on quality.
