Viewster offers a wide range of movies and TV shows to stream at no cost. This is supported through advertising but if you’re not too bothered by occasional interruptions then you can access a great amount of entertainment for free. They also offer a free mobile app for Android or Apple devices, making it a useful tool if you’re on the move, however there are no download options so you will need a reliable internet connection to watch videos.
Viewster is growing in popularity and it’s easy to see why. Although you won’t necessarily find the biggest movie releases on the site there are plenty of independent movies and shows that are worth watching. The range is impressive, with everything from anime to French cinema, horror to documentaries. The site is fairly well-designed and finding what you need is generally easy enough.
You can browse a genre or perform a search, although the search feature could be tailored more. If you watch a series or a movie in parts then the website provides quick links to the next episode in line, although we would also like to see recommendations based on what you thought of each video. However, you can review videos by giving them a star rating and you can write a review for others to read. This is really useful because it allows you to get a good idea of how a show was received before watching it.
Generally the quality is quite high, particularly for the very popular videos. Some videos have subtitles which can be irritating (the spoken language is English but there are Japanese subtitles, for example). There is also a bit of a wait before each movie starts and you may have to tolerate advertisements because Viewster is a free movie download service.
The site seems keen to improve and asks for your feedback, which is reassuring to see. They also provide a searchable FAQ which offered most of the questions we had, but you can submit a support ticket if you still have issues.
We were pleased to see that the site offers trailers and information on cinema releases, among other film-friendly information. This shows that it’s designed by real fans and isn’t just a sales pitch. There’s some interesting reading here if you’re not sure what to watch.
You can also create and develop a profile, so if you discover that you share similar film preferences to another member then you could follow their recommendations.
Viewster.com probably won’t have everything you’re looking for but it offers a wide range of movies and shows that you might not know about. It’s fairly well-designed, user-friendly and, of course, it’s free, although you do have to tolerate those adverts.
